Abstract
Helen Collins was born in 1901 in the town of Wakefield, Nebraska. Her father, Henry Collins, was a prominent businessman in the area; her mother, Sophia Collins, was the daughter of the Salem Lutheran Church's founder. Helen was one of seven children her father hoped would all attend college; Helen and her sister Elsie selected Augustana. Erleen “Lindy” Lindeman transferred to Augustana College in 1941 after completing her first two years at Bethany College. She graduated in 1943 with a degree in English.
